HaRRT Center

At the Harm Reduction Research and Treatment (HaRRT) Center, we work collaboratively with people who use substances and their larger communities to identify ways for people to stay safer and healthier if they are not ready, willing or able to stop using substances. We advocate for safer use strategies that are shown to help mitigate the harms that people experience from their substance use, and we work with people toward helping them move toward the things that they want to see happen for themselves. Our research has been focused on marginalized communities over the past 15 years, in particular we have worked together with people experiencing homelessness and substance use to co-develop our harm reduction treatment approach and through a social purpose corporation that we have recently established (www.HaRT3S.com), we are also working on bringing our evidence based treatment into mainstream treatment through trainings and consultation; and we are also working on setting up an actual harm reduction treatment center where people can receive harm reduction therapy, as we know that only 10% of all by all people who experience substance use disorders seek out the help that they need and that is simply not reaching the majority of people that need help.
